What to do if you were arrested for DUI/DWI on New Year’s Eve

While this year was very different because of government imposed shutdowns which have led to the failure of many small businesses there is always still a significant spike in arrests for drunk driving, impaired driving, driving under the influence and driving while intoxicated throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Despite being misdemeanors (usually but not always), these are very serious charges and can disrupt almost every area of your life. An arrest for DUI or DWI is by no means how anyone wants to start out 2021.

If you’re facing impaired driving charges of any kind in Southeastern Pennsylvania or South Jersey please contact our DUI defense attorneys now for a free case review.

Studies show that there are an average of 202 DUI crashes in Pennsylvania in the 12 hours spanning midnight January 1st through noon January 1st. This is an increase of more than 70% compared to an average 24 hour period during most other times of the year even during a pandemic. With the spike in alcohol related crashes there is also a corresponding surge in fatal auto accidents on New Year’s Eve.

Drug and alcohol related fatal car crashes are a leading cause of death in those aged 21-25. This includes intoxicated drivers, passengers and those in vehicles hit by a drunk driver.

In Pennsylvania most DUI’s are misdemeanors. However if you are driving while buzzed, drunk, high or otherwise impaired and cause an injury to anyone you can be charged with a felony DUI. In the event your DUI culminated in serious injury or wrongful death you are facing much more serious felony charges and mandatory jail time.

Do not let one night of over-indulging and poor decision making ruin the new year before it starts. If you are facing impaired driving charges of any sort in PA or NJ please let our DUI defense attorneys help. They routinely handle the criminal and motor vehicle hearing aspects of DUI and DWI cases.

If you feel you have a problem with alcohol or drugs our DWI lawyers can also help you get the treatment you need as both Pennsylvania and New Jersey offer treatment based programs for many people facing impaired driving charges.

Please contact our firm today for a free case review.
